DESCRIPTION:The commercial aquaculture industry in Michigan has expressed a clear desire to grow. This presentation will describe the process followed by a commercial aquaculture workgroup made up of staff from the Quality of Life Agencies (Michigan Departments of Natural Resources\, Environmental Quality\, and Agriculture and Rural Development) as they considered two proposed net pen operations. Legislation that has been proposed on both sides of this topic will also be discussed. The existing net pen industry in Ontario's waters of Northern Lake Huron will also be discussed. Class #2: The Health of the Great Lakes is a series of 3 classes on a common theme. When registering for Class 1 you are also registering for Class 2 and 3. Registration is required.
