Charlevoix Summer Lecture Series Presents: Allee Willis, The D Detroit's Impact on Creativity and Me Allee Willis is a GRAMMY®, Emmy, Tony and Webby award-winning and nominated songwriter, artist, multimediaist, director, collector, party thrower whose hit songs, including Earth, Wind & Fire's, September. and Boogie Wonderland, The Pointer Sisters' Neutron Dance, and The Rembrandts' I'll Be There For You (Theme From Friends), have sold more than 50 million records. She's also the co-author of the Broadway musical, The Color Purple. Her art includes painting, motorized sculpture, videos, ceramics, furniture design, web design and sets. Willis has addressed Congress on artists' rights in cyberspace. The social network she built, The Allee Willis Museum of Kitsch at AWMOK.com, promotes a vibrant and unique form of social interaction and contains the largest collection of pop culture kitsch on the planet. For the past two years Willis has been working on The D, a record and video, and Allee Willis Loves Detroit, a feature length film about the human spirit as seen through the citizens of Detroit, her home town. Willis recorded and filmed thousands of Detroiters in a series of 50 sing-alongs throughout the city and is currently editing the 5000 vocal tracks and over 2000 hours of footage from the project.
