Movies in the Marina- A League of Their Own

The Monday Movies in the Marina series is generously sponsored by Charlevoix Cinema III, a locally owned independent movie theatre located on Antrim Street in Downtown Charlevoix.

August 4 . PG . A League of Their Own

During WWII when all the men are fighting the war, most of the jobs that were left vacant because of their absence were filled by women. The owners of the baseball teams, not wanting baseball to be dormant indefinitely, decide to form teams with women. Scouts are sent all over the country to find players when one of the scouts passes through Oregon and finds a woman named Dottie Hinson, who is incredible. She is not interested in going until the scout offers to also take her kid sister. Jimmy Dugan, a former MLB player, who's now a drunk is the team manager. Do these women have what it takes to be taken seriously in competitive baseball? After a few months when it appears the girls are not garnering any attention and the league is facing closure, Dottie does something that grabs the attention of the press and fans alike.
