Assistant Cheesemaker

Charlevoix Cheese Company is a family-owned and operated dairy farm and farmstead cheese production facility in Charlevoix, Michigan. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Assistant Cheesemaker to join our team. As an Assistant Cheesemaker, you will play a crucial role in the cheese production process, ensuring a finished product which meets or exceeds the requirements of Food Safety regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices. Experience is not necessary, but enthusiasm for physical work in a detail-oriented environment is a must. This position is part-time with a potential for full-time work depending on skillset. Responsibilities • Assist the Cheesemaker in all aspects of high-quality artisanal cheese production • Perform cheddaring, milling, pressing and packaging of cheese • Remove cheese from press and clean equipment • Adhere to sanitation procedures and policies • Follow and maintain Good Manufacturing Practices • Work effectively as a team player • Become familiar with HACCP Qualifications • Strong attention to detail and multitasking abilities • Positive attitude and willingness to follow instructions • Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality • Must have a minimum high school diploma or equivalent skills by experience • Must be able to read, interpret and understand written and oral directions • Must demonstrate basic math skills to calculate production yields, and understand weights and measures • Interested in learning the art of cheesemaking Work Environment While performing duties of this job, an employee must be able to: • Lift 50 pounds • Stand for long periods of time - frequent walking, standing, bending and lifting Benefits • Paid vacation time after 90 days of employment • Employee discount and 20lb cheese annually Learn more about our farm and cheeses on www.charlevoixcheese.com.
