The Coming of the Resorts: The Belvedere and Chicago Club

The program so popular we just had to do it again! This historical presentation traces the founding of the resorts in Charlevoix, first by the Charlevoix Resort Association (Belvedere Club) in 1878, followed by the Chicago Club in 1880/81. The two resorts have been an important and influential part of the fabric of Charlevoix for well over a century. Learn how the resorts came to be established here, how they grew, important names and stories associated with each, an exploration of their cottage and hotel architecture, and how they unknowingly contributed to the establishment of one of Charlevoix’s most enduring events. This program recognizes the resorts’ receipt of the prestigious Friends of the Charlevoix Public Library Margaret Duerr Award, by the Belvedere Club in 2014, and by the Chicago Club in 2015.
