Job Description
Working Hours
2nd Shift: Monday - Thursday, 5:00 PM - 3:00am
Training on 1st shift: Monday - Thursday, 6:30am - 5:00pm
Summary
The 2nd Shift Supervisor will plan, direct, coordinate, and control activities of workers engaged in mill and assembly operations including operating machinery, mill and assembly scheduling, mill and assembly equipment and tools, and managing materials for production in the mill and assembly departments. This is a working supervisor position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Inspect materials, parts, and products at different stages of production
Record observations and make recommendations for improving processes
Utilize basic computer software to communicate effectively with other teams and record findings
Interact with members of other teams to resolve questions and issues either via in person communication, via phone, or via email
Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems
Read blueprints and use measuring tools
Lead in enforcing work instructions
Under Plant Manager guidance, schedules work, assists with employee selection, reviews employee performance, administers work rules and might recommend compensation
Supervises employees engaging in mill and assembly operations
Responsible for productivity and quality management to the extent these fall within department control
Recommends equipment upgrades, staffing adjustments, process modifications and may recommend product or service modification
Approve time cards, manage time off requests for mill and assembly team members, monitor attendance for all direct reports
A majority of time is spent performing hands on work of the department
Facilitate lean initiatives and (CI) Continuous Improvement, to improve labor standards and productivity of work area
Maintain house-keeping and organization for optimal performance through CI efforts
Communicate with Plant Manager on a regular basis on mill operations, assembly operations, productivity, concerns or issues
Monitor and ensure all safety rules and regulations are being followed by team members at all times
Maintain security within the facility
Other duties may be assigned at any time
Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent and a minimum of one year related experience and/or training.
Excellent clerical skills required
Possess exceptional organizational and strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Proficient in “people skills”
